Results

The direct effects after the safe implementation of the project are:

  • R1. Nature-based solutions for the prevention of fires and floods in the cross border area defined for Thessaloniki, Pella and JASEN with the possibility of their direct application (to be defined in 1.3 outputs);
  • R2. A safer environment in JASEN thanks to interventions for protection from fires and floods with the use of the provided equipment (to be documented with a report by JASEN six months after the end of the project);
  • R3. Thirteen species of the cross border flora evaluated under stressed conditions in order to define the most convenient ones for immediate regeneration of the cross border forests after fire (to be documented by a report by ELGO after the end of the project);
  • R4. The civil protection bodies are supported with the expertise provided by the project; all of them receive the Guidelines Book for the development of their civil protection plans (to be documented by a report by ELGO after the end of the project).
  • R5. Increase of awareness on civil protection issues thanks to the participation of min.100 people in related events (to be documented by participants’ list and questionnaires).

All these 5 immediate results contribute directly to the result indicator of the programme (Population benefiting from risk / hazards prevention and natural disaster management measures), as the project is benefiting directly at least 295.000 people. Its effect is, however, greater as its results can be capitalized by other areas as well.

As a conclusion, the project acts in multiple levels; it applies new technologies in the civil protection practice, it develops new innovative products (e.g. the Guideline Book for civil protection or the development of original models for the assessment of risks) and it applies them to the cross border area during the project’s lifetime for the protection of citizens from natural disasters.
