Hellenic Agricultural Organization (ELGO)

The Hellenic Agricultural Organization (ELGO) is the Lead Beneficiary of the project.

The Forest Research (FRI) of ELGO with totally 20 researchers is directly connected to the protection of the rich forest ecosystems of Greece that can be damaged by wildfires causing severe consequences, as floods and human lives loss and can define the most appropriate flora species for ecosystem restoration.

The Institute of Plant Breeding and Genetic Resources (IPBGR) with totally 30 researchers targets at the preservation, evaluation and exploitation of genetic resources (for example local varieties) and can organize the experimental part of the recommended flora species for restoration.

They both have previous experience in CBC actions; FRI implemented the project “SFEDA” in Balkan-Med programme while IPBGR is the LB of the project “conse-pp” and has already implemented the project “Development of Balkan Botanic Garden and of a Research and Education Center regarding Balkan Flora” in the Interreg II programme.

Public Enterprise for Managing and Protection of the Multipurpose Area – JASEN

The Public Enterprise for Managing and Protection of the Multipurpose Area-JASEN was established as a nature reserve by governmental decision in 2010 with responsibilities for the management and protection of nature, biological and landscape diversity and natural heritage. It is a hotspot of biodiversity with great national, European & global significance.

Its staff (totally 49 people) is related to the subject of the project and will offer competence during the implementation of relevant actions. The experience that JASEN has gained thanks to “conse-pp” project in terms of management EU funds is of great importance and it will be capitalized

University Ss. Cyril & Methodius

The Faculty of Forestry in Skopje -established in 1947- provides teaching, research and applied activities in natural and bio-technical sciences. 28 people are working at it. Besides its educational activity, it is actively participating in the realization of numerous scientific-research projects.

As a result of this, the scientific work has been published in the country and abroad. The Faculty activities also comprise the certification and quality control of forestry and forest nurseries as well as the preventive protection of forests.

It also has a significant experience in EU programmes, like HORIZON, EU Framework Programme FP7-ERANET and INTERREG II. It is the IPA partner with the biggest experience and capacity completing successfully the partnership as a whole.
